In Uganda, the intersection of chess and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is fostering a unique movement to empower young girls. Programs like the Father Grimes Secondary Schools Chess Tournament are leading the way, as girls from single-gender schools participate in competitions that not only enhance their cognitive abilities but also encourage them to pursue careers in STEM. Supported by the Uganda Chess Federation’s initiatives, these efforts are building confidence, resilience, and analytical skills among girls — qualities that are essential in STEM fields.
